  • This is a lead clinician role in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
  • This post will provide a key role in the clinical leadership of the systematic provision of a high quality comprehensive clinical/counselling psychology service within the Cardiac Psychology service.
  • This post will oversee the clinical/counselling psychologists working within the acute specialty of cardiac rehabilitation, ensure expert evidence based psychological services to patients and their families, train and support staff and raise the profile and awareness of psychological issues at all stages of the patient pathway. We work in a stepped care model using both group and individual therapy approaches.
  • There are a total of 4 clinical/counselling psychologists (2.1wte) in NHS GGC working within Cardiology.
  • This post is responsible for representing the psychological aspects of patient care in various senior level forums e.g. clinical leads group, SIGN, MCN and Scottish Government.   
  • The post holder has responsibility for ensuring that national waiting time targets are adhered to and that the psychology resource is utilized in the most effective and efficient manner, consistent with organizational priorities.
  • This post is responsible for ensuring that appropriate teaching, training, supervision and governance arrangements are in place to support both psychologists and non-psychology colleagues deliver psychologically informed care and interventions.  This is delivered across acute, primary care, social care and 3rd sector settings. 
  • This post has overall responsibility for the research agenda to ensure that psychological/emotional factors are considered and integrated into patient focused audit and research.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team and to ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical delivery and professional supervision and support of all other staff within the service/ team for which the post holder has designated responsibility, including clear systems for effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs across the service/sector team.
  • To act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community and, as a major requirement of the job, to carry out research activities, audit, policy and service development.
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology are required. Registration with the HCPC as a clinical/counselling psychologist is essential.
