An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated staff nurse to support the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, predominantly working on the Beatson Cancer Treatment Helpline (CTH) but will also involve working with patients in the AOAU.  The AOAU provides unscheduled care to patients presenting / becoming unwell in out-patient and day case treatment areas, as well as those accessing services via the Cancer Treatment Helpline. You will be part of a multi professional, multi disciplinary team based in the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) working collaboratively to assess and manage unwell patients with cancer, whilst ensuring timely referral to appropriate level of medical staff and admission of patients to an inpatient ward where appropriate.  A substantial component of this post will involve giving advice to patients via the Cancer Treatment Helpline, and liaising with Emergency Departments and Primary Care.  The role will usually be Monday - Friday which supports the AOAU opening hours, although weekend shift cover may be required on occasion to support the CTH.  Applications are sought from oncology/haematology nurses who have a minimum of 2 years experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and evidence of effective team-working. Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and provide evidence of continuing professional development.
