Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An opportunity has arisen to become part of our small Nursing team, on a fixed term/secondment, at the Dunbar Community Hospital in Thurso.

We are a 6 Bedded unit (GP led) which includes 6 General beds and 2 Palliative care rooms. We currently have a mix of patients including those requiring slow stream / intermediate rehabilitation as well as complex discharge planning and maintenance of independence.  The patient cohort has been varied including some younger adults, Frailty and Mental Health.

Aside from the inpatient ward we have recently reopened the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) from 8am-5pm and our team also support several OP clinics on site; so there will be several opportunities for the successful candidate to widen their skills and experience, and contribute to an evolving “local care" led Nursing service.

We can offer up to 37.5 hrs, 6 months fixed term/secondment position, which involves working long shifts (12.5hours). Job share will be considered.

We are looking for a motivated, caring and courteous person to help us provide good quality care. Candidates should be enthusiastic and keen to develop skills and undertake additional training in order to develop their role.

Experience in care of the elderly/palliative care preferable.
