Advanced Healthcare Scientist for Infection Prevention and Control Team.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a high priority for the NHS in Scotland. The IPC Team aims to ensure the provision of a safe environment, which minimizes the risk of infection to patients, residents, staff and visitors.  The Surveillance Team within the IPC Department provide a service throughout NHS GG&C Services and Care Homes.

The post holder will support the Infection Prevention and Control Senior Management Team in the provision of healthcare science and statistical interpretation of data, specialist advice and support of surveillance programme. This will include the development and implementation of surveillance systems and research, and involve the analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex epidemiological and surveillance data to support the delivery of Infection Prevention and Control within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Inpatient Services and Care Homes.  In conjunction with the Care Home hub Multidisciplinary team and partner agencies the post holder will support patients and residents’ safety and wellbeing by ensuring the Health Care Quality strategy ambitions of person centered, safe and effective care underpins all aspects of care.

The post holder will produce regular reports on surveillance data, identifying data quality issues and taking actions to investigate and address any anomalies. Provide scientific and or epidemiological advice to the IPC Senior Management Team in the management of outbreaks and incidents including attending meetings and assessment groups.

Prepare and disseminates complex, often sensitive, surveillance data and information and assist in development of scientific and/or epidemiological literature to inform the provision of evidence-based advice and best practice, to develop guidelines and policies, to strengthen the knowledge base and to facilitate the identification of areas requiring research and development.

Liaise effectively with external organisations to ensure the NHS GGC Board is at the forefront of any new developments in relation to revision of datasets or updates to databases required or any other issues that would have an impact on the effectiveness of the local and national results of the Board. Liaise with all external agencies involved in patients’ and residents’ care in order to promote positive joint working relationships.

You will be educated to post graduate level in a health or research field with a proven track record in epidemiology, health protection or public health. You will have excellent leadership skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and will be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of healthcare partners. Knowledge of the NHS, Health and Social Care Partnerships and infection control would be advantageous.
