Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

The Salaried GP with Extended Role (GPwER) programme is well established within NHS Ayrshire and Arran and supplements a GPs’ core generalist role by allowing development of sub-specialty skills.  This innovative role has been developed primarily to support joint working within child and Adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) across NHS Ayrshire and Arran. The development of this new role will allow development of skills in neurodevelopmental disorders and eating disorders in young people.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking general practitioner who will be supported by the Clinical Director for CAMHS to deliver care to young people with neurodevelopmental disorders and eating disorders. It is expected that the successful applicant will be involved in undergraduate medical teaching and supervision for students during their attachment to CAMHS and there will also be opportunities to support delivery of postgraduate medical training for GPSTs and FY2s; for example by being a named Educational Supervisor for GPST trainees, by organising and supporting delivery of teaching for GPSTs and FY2s with focus on the role of primary care, providing drop-in sessions to allow practice based GP trainees to gain feedback on CAMHS related clinical activity etc.

We envisage that the GPwER will split their sessional commitment between a GP Practice in Ayrshire and Ayrshire and CAMHS, with 4 sessions per week spent in the CAHMS.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran offers an unsurpassed blend of a strong, supportive and forward thinking GP and professional health community to help your working career thrive.  Ayrshire and Arran offers a fantastic social and family lifestyle backdrop with possibilities for both town and country living or easy commuting access from the Central Belt.

•    A  salary of between £74,547 and £94,311 per annum pro rata (dependent on experience), with weekend / overnight enhancements if applicable;
•    A generous benefits scheme including annual leave and study leave;

•    Medical indemnity for salaried doctors will be provided by NHS Ayrshire & Arran

Post Requirements:

•    Current PVG Scheme membership/record.  If the successful applicant is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before the successful post holder can commence employment with NHS Ayrshire & Arran;
•    Sound knowledge of the requirements of the NHS GMS Contract with a good understanding of Clinical Governance is essential;
•    Evidence of recent continued academic and professional development;
•    Applicants will also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training, Certificate of Prescribed Experience from JCPTGP or equivalent and be registered on both the GMC and GP Registers by the time of appointment. An RCGP qualification will be advantageous;
•    Promote GP training at an undergraduate and post-graduate level
•    Provide specialist psychiatric/physical assessment, treatment and risk management for patients within the Neurodevelopmental multidisciplinary team and community Eating Disorders team
•    To develop effective relationships with families, carers and other professionals involved in the development and wellbeing of the patients.
