Band 7 SCN/OPD Orthopaedic Theatres

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical expert with leadership qualities to lead Orthopaedic specialities within Glasgow Royal Infirmary Theatres. Preferred candidates should possess clinical expertise within Theatres of at least 5 years, mostly at band 6 within the field of orthopaedics. The service is looking for a practitioner who puts a high quality person centred care at the centre of the Theatre environment. This post supports 24/7 service delivery within the North Sector. Acute and a flexible skill set is essential for this role and the successful candidate will be highly visible. You will be a leader of a fast paced area and responsible for staff development to support a flexible service. Candidates are welcome from professionals who have a ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to progress the patient’s journey so that it is timely, safe, and flexible to meet service needs. To carry out this role you will need to demonstrate and practice as a highly visible manager.
Scope and range of the post:-
Overall responsibility for the setting, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice to deliver person-centred care
Manage all staff within remit. This includes Turas and HR policies devised by ‘One Scotland’
Provide clinical leadership to nursing staff.
Responsible for the monitoring and management of the ward/department budget.
Participate in Unit/Hospital cover arrangements when required.
The successful candidate will be offered a supported induction period
This will be a super-numerical period shadowing SCN peers including hub and theatre co-ordinator. During this time input from recruitment, HR training and access with administrative support will be established. This administrative support will be in place to allow you as a SCN to meet targets and increase visibility within the Teams. In return for your own development you will be expected to develop learning pathways such as relevant leadership and /or Degree/Master modules. This will prepare you to undertake the full remit of the SCN role. It is also essential you have evidence of continual development, IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in an Orthopaedic Theatre environment. As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current NMC registration will be required prior to start date. You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current NMC registration, in line with projected start date for this post, may not be shortlisted for interview. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.
