Mental Health Liaison Nurse – Inverclyde Older Persons Mental Health Team, Crown House, Greenock  

Inverclyde Older Persons Mental Health Team is an integrated and comprehensive multi-disciplinary team providing care to individuals with complex mental health needs including dementia and their carers.  Working directly under the supervision of the Band 7 Health Team lead, alongside the senior social worker and clinical psychologist, you will focus on a range of clinical interventions and have responsibility for managing your own caseload while working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary care team. The main focus of this post will be care homes, including the delivery of psychological intervention including Stress and Distress in Dementia.  There will also be a requirement to provide input into hospital liaison nurse service as required.  You will be responsible for the maintenance of your own clinical and professional standards of practice and carry delegated responsibility for the professional leadership and supervision of junior staff.   You will act as a role model for student nurses and contribute to their learning and development in line with educational institution policies and requirements.

You will contribute to service developments and governance, in keeping with current good practice, professional and organisational objectives.  Post holder must be able to make complex decisions independently and during difficult situations.  There will be requirement to contribute to various development forums within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Inverclyde HSCP.

Older Persons Mental Health Team incorporates an urgent response service, care home and hospital liaison service as well as community mental health nursing and care management. 

The service is committed to continuous professional development and will afford support to meet training and development needs.  

Essential:

NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse

Car Driver

Previous robust experience of working in a community mental healthcare setting.

Be in possession of, in progress of, or willing to commit to the attainment of a recordable qualification relevant to the post e.g. BA, BSc, Diploma.

Demonstrable evidence of commitment to working with individuals with complex mental health needs, in particular, presentations of psychoses and substance co-morbidity i.e. working knowledge of current good practice and effective models of care applicable.

Sound comprehension of the principles of leadership.

Knowledge of current mental health and social care legislation

Demonstrate ongoing professional development 

Preferred:

Knowledge of care management systems and processes.

Knowledge of Newcastle Model/Stress and Distress

SPIRIT trained.

Experience of working in multi-disciplinary team

Experience of complex mental health issues

Able to use computer recording systems such as Emis/Swift

Able to process complex information

Experience of lone working  

This is a permanent post, 37.5 hours per week.  Shift pattern is Monday-Friday, 9am -5pm.
