We are looking for enthusiastic registered nurses with an interest in dealing with older adults to become part of our amazing team at the University Hospital Monklands.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision. The post holder may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise registered and/or unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.

Elderly Care Rotational Post
These posts offer an exciting opportunity to join our Elderly Care Team within University Hospital Monklands.
The posts will offer an understanding of the specialist care delivered in each of our wards within Elderly care comprising a three months’ rotation into each area.
The wards are as follows:
Ward 14 Frailty Receiving Unit:
The 24 bedded Frailty Receiving unit takes patients directly from Accident and Emergency offering training and experience in the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment of patients identifying medical, psychosocial, and functional limitations of a frail older person in order to develop a coordinated plan for their return home or stay in hospital after a rapid assessment of frailty
Ward 20 Acute Elderly Care
Our 24 bedded Acute Elderly Care ward will offer experience in meeting the complex needs of frail elderly patients. Learning will be gained in the coordination of the needs of people living with frailty using structured, focused Planned Date of Discharge huddles to determine the most appropriate pathway of care.
Ward 21 Acute Stroke Unit
Our 19 bedded stroke unit receives patients directly from Accident and Emergency as well as ward transfers allowing for insight into specialist care, provision to reduce death and disability through the provision of multidisciplinary care for diagnosis, emergency treatments, normalisation of homeostasis, prevention of complications, rehabilitation and secondary prevention. Skills gained will include assessment of neurological impairment, vascular risk factors, swallowing, fluid balance and nutrition, cognitive function, communication, mood disorders, continence, activities of daily living and rehabilitation goals.
Ward 22 Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
Our 24 bedded Orthopaedic rehabilitation and elderly care unit will allow an understanding of the rehabilitation process of patients following orthopaedic surgeries including hip fractures. Our team uses a multidisciplinary approach to meet the care and re-enablement needs of patients who have recently had surgery. The Multidisciplinary team systematically evaluate elderly patients with the goal of assessing and optimizing medical, psychosocial, and physical capacities, including plans for early discharge or transfer to appropriate care.
