An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Public Dental Service - Lanarkshire locality for various permanent, part time Qualified Dental Nurse posts.
Please note: these is a part time post and the salary for these positions will be pro-rata.
The post holder will work as part of a team of Qualified Dental Nurses and provides full surgery and administrative support to Clinicians (Public Dental Officers, Senior Dental Officers, Consultant Orthodontists, Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Associate Specialists, training grade dentists, SpRs, SHOs, Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists). The duties include all the duties normally expected of a Qualified Dental Nurse in terms of chair/bed side, surgery and theatre clinical assistance and administrative assistance. The postholder is expected to work in a variety of settings across Lanarkshire, with any clinician, with any type of patient undergoing a wide variety of treatments (examinations and assessments, restorations, extractions, surgical procedures, prosthodontic treatment, preventive treatments, x-rays, orthodontic treatment, treatment under local anaesthetic, sedation (oral, inhalation and intravenous) general anaesthetic etc).
Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
- Hold a Nationally recognised Dental Nurse Qualification.
- Be on the GDC’s register for Dental Nurses
- Have a level of specialist theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to work with a variety of clinicians and respond to any situation that develops, including emergencies
- Experience working in a dental surgery. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment and experience of working as a dental nurse in more than one branch of dentistry would be advantageous
- Have experience of working with a variety of clinicians in a variety of settings and be able to confidently assist the dentist to provide a full range of dental treatment
- The postholder’s experience will ensure they have a level of understanding of and can anticipate the support the dentist and the patient needs so that treatment can be provided in a safe, economical, efficient and effective manner.
- Commitment to continuing Professional Development
- Experience in clinical governance including audit
- The ability to work with people and have a range of patient management skills and good interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate well at all levels – good reporting skills verbal and written
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Abel to demonstrate self motivation , use initiative and accept responsibility
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- The ability to take direction and work as part of a team through procedures and protocols to meet agreed targets.
- The ability, when necessary, to use initiative, intuition and know how in imaginative and creative ways to overcome problems and stimulate change.
- To be able to cope confidentially with a designated work remit, but yet remain a part of the wider dental team in Lanarkshire.
- IT skills , be able to use a computer and have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of the Data Protection act
- Knowledge of dental procedures, new techniques and up to date knowledge about materials.
- Knowledge of NHS Lanarkshire Policies and administrative procedures
- P.D.P.
- Awareness of patient confidentiality, child protection issues, the Disability Discrimination Act and the Adults with Incapacity Act
- Manual handling skills
- Must have a valid full driving licence and access to a car
- CPR skills
Please note the postholder must have:
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Hold a valid UK driving licence with access to a car
