Job Advert
We are keen to recruit qualified a General Practitioner to join our multi-disciplinary severe allergy team in the role of Specialty Doctor from April 2023. This post provides the opportunity to extend your clinical practice to Secondary Care within the fixed structure of a 2 PA job planned role.
The West of Scotland Anaphylaxis service, serves the adult population of 5 Scottish Health boards and receives referrals from General Practise, A&E, Secondary care and Anaesthetics. The service offers a broad range of clinical expertise, from food, drug, latex and venom allergy to lifestyle management of patients with anaphylaxis and allied syndromes. The majority of people living with the risk of Anaphylaxis are adults or adolescents and there is an emerging realisation that the problems they experience are not the same as the children for which services are established. As such we are part of an exciting and expanding specialty with new innovations in investigation and molecular research leading to greater understanding of allergy syndromes.
The West of Scotland Anaphylaxis service has employed GPs in specialty doctor roles for many years. We recognise the significant benefits of the clinical experience gained in Primary Care and how readily this translates to managing patients with chronic allergic disease in the community. We see this role as an opportunity for established GPs to add further variety to their working week.
We have supported members of our team in achieving an MSc in clinical allergy and this role offers opportunities for clinical, academic, and personal development that in turn benefits the wider team and our patients. At the same time specialty expertise from primary care helps our team develop and remain in touch with the needs of a patient living with risk in the community.
The post involves clinical out-patient work dealing with new presentations of severe allergy and anaphylaxis, mirror syndromes such as idiopathic urticaria and angioedema, managing avoidance and lifestyle restrictions and education in personal adrenaline use. The postholder will liaise with the wider team including specialty nurses, dieticians and medical colleagues.
Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and be enrolled on the GP Register. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
