Due to retirement, we are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and well-motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our established and supportive Acute Sector Adult Team as lead SLT for neurosciences.

In this senior role, you will be responsible for the provision of Speech and Language Therapy interventions, service development and multi-disciplinary team training for the Acute Neurosurgical and Neurology Teams within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  You will lead a small team of Speech and Language Therapists, providing training, development and supervision opportunities. As someone with highly specialist skills in the clinical area of neurology and neurosurgery, you will be responsible for assessing and managing patients, often with multiple aetiologies and complex communication and swallowing needs.  You will demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and an integrated clinical management focus.  You will also develop close working relationships with team members in the neuro-rehabilitation provision and community teams in order to facilitate effective discharge and ongoing support for patients.  You will have opportunities to showcase your skills in complex dysphagia management, videofluroscopy interpretation, tracheostomy management and introducing systems of alternative and augmentative communication.  Additional skills in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC) assessment/management and experience in awake craniotomy procedures are desirable.

You will be working within a very supportive MDT with excellent opportunities for collaborative working, quality improvement initiatives and training opportunities. You will also be part of the speech and language therapy service which covers a wide range of acute hospital patient care, including acute stroke, ENT, head and neck cancer, and acute and critical care. There are established pathways for peer support, mentoring and supervision, and CPD opportunities.
