Specialist Lead – Military Access Programme
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Duration: Fixed term/Secondment opportunity until August 2027*

Who we are
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a confident, inspiring and collaborative person with a background in the Armed Forces, or working in support of them, to join us as a Specialist Lead (Band 7). You will help shape an emerging team who will deliver a fresh approach to increasing employability opportunities for the Armed Forces community in NHS Scotland.
The Military Access Programme (MAP) will contribute to the national effort to support our workforce – getting the right people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time – as well as ensuring we can offer the military community a rewarding and challenging role supporting the NHS across Scotland.
This role will play a crucial role within the delivery team by defining, designing, delivering, refining and reviewing workforce projects focused on increasing the attraction of employability for the military community in health and social care roles.
We are looking for someone who has direct experience of being in or around the Armed Forces community (either as a serving service person (regular or reserve), veteran or as a spouse/dependant within a service family) who is passionate about making the NHS an exemplar employer for the Armed Forces.
You will bring an awareness of the the issues and opportunities surrounding employment of veterans, service leavers and their families. You will have experience or an understanding of the design and delivery of marketing and recruitment activity, knowledge of project management and an ability to engage and convince stakeholders. In return, this role will provide you will a rare chance to join an emerging team with a start-up feel and an ability to help guide the shape, focus and ambition of an important national programme.
What you'll do
Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;
• Identify and design key marketing activities, outputs and metrics, to achieve the
required outcomes requested by SG and other key stakeholders.
• Develop and implement evidence based, impactful marketing initiatives including
resources, campaigns & digital assets that can be scaled across health and care to
increase workforce growth.
• Work in partnership with the communications community (internally, Government and external partners) to ensure outputs are fit for purpose, impactful and scalable.
• Identify and engage key stakeholders from within and out with NES, to inform
delivery and develop processes / ways of working that will support implementation of the programme.
• Present highly complex, specialist information where a range of options is available in a form that facilitates understanding, discussion and decision-making.
• Identify, review and interpret information to enable the development of evidence based guidance, resources and digital assets to further the outcomes of the
marketing workstream.
• Project manage by co-ordinating, planning, tracking and driving the overall progress against specific deliverables of the programme.
What you'll bring
These will include but are not restricted to;
- Knowledge and experience of serving in or supporting the Armed Forces.
- Understanding of the current recruitment landscape, including design and management of activities aimed at increasing the attraction of employment.
- Experience of partnership working with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of leading projects and initiatives, including engagement, co-ordination, management of others’ contributions and appropriate use of financial and other resources
- Experience of design and delivery of marketing activities.
- Extensive experience of facilitation of groups, teams and events.
