We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced and resilient professional to lead on a preventative population health approach to reduce suicide and substance use deaths in Forth Valley recognising that a whole system approach must be taken to prevention.
Working at senior management level within NHS Forth Valley and across a range of Forth Valley Community Planning Partners, the post holder will be expected to influence and support senior managers, clinicians, social care and third sector staff to continue to develop the local review processes and to lead the development and implementation of a Forth Valley Prevention Plan for suicide and drug deaths. Multi agency planning will be a key focus of the role requiring the post holder to demonstrate innovation and initiative as well as being an effective member of a range of teams.
Managing a small a team, there is a requirement to ensure that all suicides and substance use deaths are consistently and robustly reviewed. Key learning arising from these reviews must be analysed robustly to promote a wide and shared understanding of the contributing factors that have led to a suicide or substance use death.
The post holder will be expected to lead on the development of local strategic prevention plans and to:
- Influence future planning priorities in taking forward key local and national policies pertaining to suicide and substance use deaths.
- Support collaborative activity and multi-agency planning across a range of partners which aims to minimise the impact of poverty and inequality and other wider determinants of health and wellbeing. This will include building community resilience to support the prevention of suicide and substance use deaths.
- Facilitate multi-agency workforce development opportunities that will support frontline staff to build the necessary confidence and capability to engage with individuals experiencing distress; promoting self-help resources and/or supporting individuals to access relevant services.
- The post holder will, at times, also have an important public facing role when engaging sensitively, timely and respectfully with people and families bereaved or affected by suicide and substance use deaths.
This post will require occasional travel, so the ability and willingness to travel across Forth Valley is essential.
