NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Programme provides all allogeneic transplant services for the population of Scotland as well as regional autograft services. Recently the Programme has been nationally designated as the sole provider of commercial CAR-T cell therapy in Scotland.
Clinical transplant activity is based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), the largest hospital in Scotland with a total of 24 beds dedicated to the Transplant Programme. The Clinical Transplant Facility was inspected by JACIE in May 2019 and is currently working towards full Accreditation.
The Haemopoietic Stem Cell Laboratory (HSCL) processes and stores cellular therapy products for the transplant programme and this facility is located on the Gartnavel (GGH) site (approximately 1 mile away). The HSCL is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA: 11065) and also holds JACIE Accreditation. In 2018, the Programme carried out 88 allogeneic and 85 autologous transplants.
Procurement and Collection is performed via a Service Level Agreement with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) who are also HTA licensed and hold JACIE Accreditation. SNBTS have their own quality management system and dedicated team.
Stem Cell Activities as well as the Clinical Transplant Programme operate within a defined Quality Management System. Applications are invited from enthusiastic, highly motivated and organised individuals to maintain and develop a mature quality management system to meet the needs of the current regulatory and accreditation requirements while continually promoting the ethos of quality to all staff within the Programme. The applicant will join a large and expanding transplant programme and will make a critical contribution to the delivery of the quality objectives and development of the service.
Applicants must have proven quality management experience and hold MSC/FIBMS or similar level qualification. Ideally applicants should have direct experience in the field of stem cell science, or in a related area such as Haematology, Blood Transfusion or Immunology. A working knowledge of GMP, GLP, GCP and the use of Q-Pulse are important requirements of the post holder. If you are with the nursing or allied health professions you must be currently registered with your professional bodies.
