Established as a Special Health Board, NHS Education for Scotland is the provider of leading-edge specialist learning, education and skills development for all health service employees in Scotland. These General Practice Fellowships are for one year, from August 2023. Doctors from overseas wishing to be considered for these fellowships will need to achieve an overall score of 7.5 out of 9 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

You must have completed your General Practice Specialty Training within the last 5 years prior to taking up post.

General Practice Fellowships in Health Inequalities - 2 x 0.5 wte posts (Scotland)

Salary will be £31,687 pa for 0.5 wte post. Any 2022/23 salary uplift will be applied.

The Health Inequalities Fellowship is available to doctors who have completed GP Specialty Training in the past 5 years. They will have an interest in developing specific skills related to Health Inequality which are relevant to the health needs of Scotland and may have had some previous experience of working in a deprived area.

Commitment- Scotland – 0.5 wte (5 sessions per week)


Clinical component – This will be 2 sessions in a clinical setting linked to deprivation. This includes the provision of general medical services with an emphasis on the general practice aspects of a deprived population. The part time posts will allow time to continue to develop generalist skills in the context of service general practice (e.g. through a locum or other appointment) while undertaking a tailored programme of exposure and training in relation to the Fellowship.


The Academic component will involve being attached to a regional NES Postgraduate GP unit with opportunities to become involved with educational developments, quality assurance initiatives and evaluation/research. Individuals will be encouraged to start a postgraduate qualification relevant to the Fellowship. There will be involvement t in projects linked to NES priorities.
