NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde provide a wide range of transport services. The role of bank driver is a key element of the day to day operation. The bank drivers will have access to wide of shifts across a 24 hour period over 7 days a week including bank holidays. These shifts from time to time will be requested at short notice therefore flexibility is a vital part to the successful applicants. Ideally NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde would attract drivers who can drive up to 7.5t vehicles – cat C1. Some of the duties and responsibilities will include:

  •  Laundry / Specimen / Clinical  Waste/ Stores/mail/medical records collection and distribution
  • Site security checks
  • Escort duties
  • Follow work schedules as instructed
  • Daily walk around check on vehicles before and after use
  • Use of loading trolleys, sack barrows and tail lifts
  • Report any faults to supervisor
  • Use equipment only as instructed​​​​​​​
  • Work in a safe manner and give consideration to others around you
  • Ensure all statutory and Divisional procedures are followed

There is a need to attend regular driver training and assessments to ensure NHS GGC drivers are competent and safe whilst carrying out their duties. The physical demands of the job can be quite demanding and staff will spend most of their time sitting driving, lifting and handling of goods/equipment will be required

The nature of the job requires staff to work to work schedules.

As well as the above, Bank Drivers will have access to shifts within  the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) GP OOH Service urgent care service  with is board wide. This includes patients home or homely settings. GP OOHs main base is Caledonia House, alongside the Home Visiting service.  The OOH service is supported by staff based in Caledonia House – both clerical and clinical which work both in and out of hours. GP OOHs also provide a Patient Transport Service.

To carry out a range of driving duties including but not limited to: 

  • Drive the designated OOH Transport Vehicle to pick up patients and their carers to take to the Primary Care Emergency Centres (PCECs) predominantly and return them home following consultation with the medical clinicians at the PCEC. Where required, drive patient to another NHSGGC Centre (eg Emergency Department).
  • Deliver medication/equipment to NHS GGC Sites and other areas when required.
  • Drive Home Visit clinicians.
  • Transport Staff to and from NHS GGC Sites and other areas when required.
  • Taking account of driving conditions and safely within current road traffic regulations.
