This post is available in the Advanced Staining area of the Histopathology service, with specific responsibility for the frozen section service.
The post holder will be required to:
• Supervise and coordinate the day to day technical activities of a section within the Histology laboratory.
• Provide the advanced scientific and technical skills to process and deliver patient material in a suitable form for screening and or diagnostic purposes as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment.
• Undertake routine and complex laboratory work within a specialist subdivision of the laboratory ensuring the work is performed in an efficient, organised and professional manner to provide a high quality, timely service.
• Assist the Speciality Manager in troubleshooting methods and/or processes and/or in defining and developing optimum methods.
• Work independently and/or with other staff to deliver the service to the standards set.
• Provide interpretative advice regarding specialist techniques to other laboratory professional groups.
• Lead a team of staff within a subdivision of the department and monitors the performance of their team.
• Train and mentor more junior members of staff as required.
The post holder will require to have:
• HCPC registration as a BMS is essential to enable professional practice.
• Master’s degree (MSc), Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) or demonstrable equivalent level of qualification is required.
• Significant demonstrable experience as a Specialist BMS in a relevant Pathology laboratory environment (Histopathology).
• Highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise of the discipline including discipline specific specialised procedures.
