FIXED TERM FULL TIME LOCUM CONSULTANT IN UROLOGY
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Urology Consultant to join the Tayside Urology Department (10 PAs per week) with the opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest to complement the department. The post will be initially for 6 months with the possibility of an extention for a further 6 months
The post is based primarily at Perth Royal Infirmary, with further sessions at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. All unscheduled care is provided at Ninewells, along with major elective surgery. Perth Royal Infirmary is the main site for elective care and a National Treatment Centre is due to be built there, which will provide state of the art facilities for elective urology surgery
In addition to their specialist interest, candidates will be required to contribute to the team’s core and diagnostic urology services, which are provided in the dedicated Tayside Urology Treatment Centre at Perth. The centre is fully equipped with diagnostic and one stop urology assessment facilities. A new purpose-built ambulatory urology out-patient hub is due for completion at Perth, summer 2023
The successful candidate should be listed on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT) and have FRCS (Urol) or equivalent. Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience not listed on the GMC Specialist Register will also be considered. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR and entry onto the Specialist Register will be supported and expected
For this post, relevant experience in elective and emergency management of core and endoscopic urology is essential and previous experience at consultant level is desirable. The urology department at NHS Tayside is led by an innovative and forward-thinking group of consultants. There is a DaVinci Robot for prostate cancers and robotic services are expanding to bladder and renal cancers
The department has well-established services for HoLEP, PCNL, Flexible & semi-rigid ureteroscopy, bipolar resections and complex endo-urology services with capability for endoscopic laser lithotripsy in all urology theatres, including emergency theatre. There is excellent support from a large and dynamic team of interventional radiologists. A full on-call rota of interventional radiology provides 24 hrs support to urology cases. The department has a very strong specialist nursing team and a well-established multi-disciplinary culture
Our outpatients work with a ‘One Stop’ model including flexible cystoscopy and prostate biopsy takes place in the dedicated Tayside Urology Treatment Centre at Perth. Emergency urology services are delivered at Ninewells Hospital and emergency rota runs at frequency of 1:7 with a consultant of the week system and elective activity is stopped during the on call week. During the on call week urology consultants are supported by a well-established team of specialist nurses and urology trainees and fellows. The unit has specific interest in teaching surgical skills and runs several courses through the Surgical Skills Centre of Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation (formally Cuschieri Surgical Skills Centre)
