This is an exciting opportunity for Senor Clinical Nurse Specialist posts who will provide specialist clinical leadership in the field of Substance Use Service (SUS).  Independently managing the care of patients, utilising high levels of specialist clinical assessment, decision makes and clinical judgement to formulate appropriate treatment plan incorporating non medical prescribing (V300) within the speciality of SUS and providing specialist SUS advice and support for patients, clients and relatives.

Lead on the delivery and implementation of Medical assisted treatment both in the community clinical setting and the primary care GP practice setting.

To contribute to developing the service in collaboration with the Team Manager to improve practice and work collaboratively across healthcare boundaries, implementing and evaluating evidence-based standards, guidelines and policies.

Provide supervision, education and training programmes for healthcare professionals, students and other professional groups. To implement and undertake audit and/or research activities ensuring evidence-based practice in the specialist area. This post holder will work with and be responsible to the Adult Mental Health/SUS Service Manager.

Key duties will include, but are not limited to;

*Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of highly specialised programmes of care for patients and their families

*Initiating Independent medication prescribing (V300), administration and management in line with Patient Group Directive’s or Prescribing as required for specialist area and in line with prescribing competence

*Lead and act as a specialist nursing resource across Primary and secondary care services

*Provide education for patients and carers at diagnosis and throughout their care journey including condition and treatment options and advice on health life style activities

*Direct specific initiatives within the multidisciplinary team to assure and improve the quality of care, including the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the service throughout NHS Lothian.

* As required, and in the absence of the Team lead operationally manage the team

*Responsible for clinical and staff governance in collaboration with the Team manager within the substance use service

*Promote and develop research and lead clinical audit programmes

*In an advisory and teaching capacity demonstrate highly specialised clinical knowledge skills and understanding of Substance Use in relation to clinical interventions to the multidisciplinary team in area of responsibility and primary care settings

If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
