To provide expert professional nursing leadership, strategic direction and consultancy on all aspects of care and treatment of people with Tissue Viability/wounds across the patient pathway in Lothian. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries, in partnership and in collaboration with others including service users, carers, health professionals, social work, voluntary sector staff and local education providers. 

The post holder will have responsibility in four main areas:

Professional Leadership & Consultancy

Acting as a representative of NHS Lothian at a national level to support and influence the development and review of standards, guidelines, contracts, and reporting related to Pressure Ulcer work and other Tissue Viability related issues.

Expert Practice

Provide specialist expert Tissue Viability advice at both a service and strategic level to promote person centred quality care and a culture of compliance with policy, to ensure NHS Lothian achieves locally and nationally set targets including those set by Scottish Patient Safety Programme/Scottish Government for reducing Pressure Ulcers.

Operational Management and Service Development

Have operational responsibility for providing clinical, managerial, and professional leadership in the running of the service and influencing the future service delivery and nursing strategy, accountable for the delivery and standards of care provided to patient and ensuring safe effective person-centred care.

Education, Training, Research and Development

Lead the development, implementation, and delivery of a specialist educational programme in relation to Tissue Viability (including Pressure Ulcer prevention). Working collaboratively with internal and external education and R&D teams.  Monitoring the impact of education and research on practice and outcomes and make the necessary amendments to support continuous improvement.
