Are you interested in a career within healthcare Science with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility? The Golden Jubilee National Hospital (GJNH) has an exciting opportunity to train and become a registered Clinical Perfusion Scientist, working within the cardiac surgical field.
The West of Scotland Clinical Perfusion service provides support to both the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC), Glasgow. There is an annual adult workload of around 1400 cases, including cardiac transplantation and complex adult congenital specialties, within GJNH. There are around 250 neonate/paediatric cardiac surgical CPB procedures undertaken each year within the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.
There are busy neonatal, paediatric and adult ECMO services across the two sites and a busy short term VAD service at GJNH. Clinical Perfusionists also have the responsibility of managing all technical aspects of the LTLVAD patients, including scrubbing and participation at the implant with follow up reviews at outpatient clinics.
The successful candidate must have a minimum 2:2 BSc (hons) within a relevant life/biological sciences field for entry to the school of clinical perfusion sciences, at the University of Bristol.
You will follow the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland’s two-year training programme. This involves the successful attainment of the MSc in clinical perfusion science, while maintaining a professional clinical portfolio with onsite support and training at the GJNH and RHC. Following on from this you will be required to undertake the professional body’s practical and Viva Voce examination to gain accreditation status for autonomous clinical practice.
During the training period you will follow the AFC annex 21 salary scheme.
