Due to retirement, we’re looking for a talented nursing leader who is passionate about providing quality children’s palliative care and making a difference to children in Scotland with life shortening conditions. You will work with a talented and passionate team of nurses based in our two hospices to make sure that every child and their family receives an outstanding experience of care, bespoke to their individual needs.

Our hospices are colourful, joyful places, where our talented teams spend quality time with children and families to help them make the most of the time they have together, no matter how short. You’ll build relationships and connections like no other, supporting families through some of the most difficult times of their lives, and helping them cherish the happy moments too.

This role is a strategic leadership role, accountable for the delivery of care in our two children’s hospices, Robin House and Rachel House. Reporting to the Director for Children and Families, you will work closely with the Medical Director and Associate Nursing Director for Outreach. You will be an experienced nursing leader, with excellent communication skills, clinical knowledge and an ability to lead change and inspire nursing teams.

The specifics

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the experience of care at our hospices is exceptional and meets the individualised needs of babies, children, young people with life-shortening conditions and their families.

You will provide inspirational leadership and expert clinical, operational and professional advice to the multi-disciplinary teams in our two hospices.

You will lead a team of talented professionals, with direct line management responsibility for one service manager and four senior charge nurses.  Within your department, you will provide leadership and have overall responsibility for approx 120 staff, made up of registered nurses, nursing support workers, physiotherapists and administrators.

You will lead, manage and develop staff to ensure the hospice services are run in a safe, effective and sustainable way that delivers best value to CHAS and the families who need our care.

You will contribute to the clinical, care, financial and workforce governance arrangements at a senior level.

You will be responsible for budget setting and processes and monitoring of expenditure within hospice services.

About you

You will have the ability to think strategically and act as a team player, with a proven track record in developing innovative solutions to meet organisational requirements.

You will have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and previous experience of managing a large nursing team.  You will be inspirational in your approach, motivating others, with an ability to lead and direct change.  

You will have extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standard setting within a clinical environment.  Acting with integrity you will be child and family focussed, acting as a role model for others, living and breathing CHAS values. 

You will have a thirst for learning and be able to evidence professional development.  Working collaboratively, you will have a talent for building relationships to achieve positive outcomes.  

You will be accountable and professional, with a desire for continuous improvement. Experience of resource management i.e. financial; human; capital, along with evidence of good IT skills is essential.

Experience and knowledge of Quality Improvement methodologies is preferred.​​​​​​​
