Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national Health Board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

Do you want to make difference to medical education and training in Scotland? Are you interested in supporting the education of medical undergraduates in Scotland?

A senior doctor currently (or until recently) working in the NHS is needed for the role of Associate Postgraduate Dean for Medical ACT to contribute to strategic leadership of NHS Education Scotland’s Medical ACT Team. This team oversees, on behalf of NES, the distribution of the Scottish Government’s funding for the clinical teaching of medical undergraduates that is delivered within Health Boards by clinicians in hospital and primary care settings. The post holder will join the existing APGD Lead for Medical ACT and the team which provides strategic and operational leadership of Medical ACT and of all of the associated processes and committee structures involving internal stakeholders with NES and external stakeholders including those from Health Boards, Medical Schools as well as from Scottish Government.


Applicants must be qualified to MBChB or equivalent and included in the GMC’s General and Specialist Registers. A broad understanding of the GMC and Scotland Deanery quality frameworks together with practical experience of medical education and training in the NHS is required.
