Trainee Operating Department Practitioner

Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice.

Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex 21 applies* 

We are looking for five enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive people to undertake an innovative Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) program, which is being delivered in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland. Please be advised that you must meet minimum entry requirements for the university (please see person specification for more information).

If the answer to the above is yes, then we would encourage you to apply for one of the places on the course, of which course fees are fully paid by NHS Fife.

The course is a 2-year university program commencing September 2021 and is a blend of practice placements, along with online and taught education. Throughout both years of the program, you will progressively gain experience and be fully supported by mentors within the clinical areas.

After successful completion of the Dip HE in Operating Department Practice we will provide you the opportunity to consolidate your clinical practice in NHS Fife as a fully Registered Operating Department Practitioner. As well as achieving the Diploma, you will be fully registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows: 

•    up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate. 
•    more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified. 
•    more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate. 
•    more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
