Do you enjoy working with people, in a highly motivated team to improve the physical function of inpatients in a hospital setting? If so, this could be the job for you!

We have a vacancy for a Healthcare Support Worker in the respiratory physiotherapy team.  Working within a dynamic team you will work alongside physiotherapists in the assessment and treatment of a variety of different patient groups. You will also work independently to assess patients’ mobility, function and ability to carry out activities of daily living. You will provide exercise programmes and facilitate discharge plans to ensure patients are achieving their rehabilitation goals.  The Respiratory team covers a variety of wards including critical care areas, respiratory wards, post surgical wards and medical patients.  This environment allows excellent variety with the opportunity to work in the early rehabilitation of complex patients with significant medical/surgical needs.  Working as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team, which will include medical staff, nurses, occupational therapists and healthcare support workers you will be given the opportunity to experience collaborative, progressive working within a fast-paced environment.

You are expected to have (or be working towards) a health related HNC and/or SVQ Level 3 or be able to provide clear evidence of relevant training and experience equivalent to this.  Health or social care experience in a Physiotherapy or related environment with previous experience of working clinically with patients is essential.  You will require a basic knowledge of common surgical, medical and respiratory conditions with experience in post operative rehabilitation, teaching of exercises and provision of walking aids being beneficial.  Excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility and a good team working ethos are essential to be able to work with your colleagues to support patients across a wide range of backgrounds.  Basic IT knowledge is essential and you will be expected to use a computer daily eg. word processing and use of internet.

Hours: 26 hours/week over 5 days.  Preferred hours Mon-Thu 9.30am-3pm and Fri 9.30am-3.30pm with 30 mins lunch every day but alternative options can be discussed.  The post will include weekend working in the future.
