For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
• up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
• more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
• more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
• more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

An opportunity has arisen for 5 highly motivated and innovative staff members to undertake the 2 year Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) training course supported by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).
ODPs are members of the multi-disciplinary theatre team involved with the overall planning and delivery of perioperative care. ODPs are mainly employed in surgical operating departments in the roles of anaesthetic assistant, scrub practitioner and recovery practitioner. This post will formally rotate between these roles and on an ad hoc basis to meet clinical demand.
The programme is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), is at diploma level and commences in September 2023
During the 2 year course you will be registered with UWS as a full-time student and as such will have full access to all facilities and academic support.
The Dip HE ODP programme is undertaken online and will be accessed from a range of perioperative settings throughout NHS Tayside. It is an ideal opportunity to undertake work based experiential and reflective learning whilst being employed. Your work will be assessed in a variety of specialist areas such as general surgery; orthopaedic surgery; ear, nose and throat; obstetric surgery, anaesthetic and post-anaesthetic care (recovery).
The course comprises of 60% clinical practice in an allocated Practice Learning Environment and 40% academic learning (online and taught).
Each applicant must have the following academic requirements:
- 5 passes in the Scottish National Qualifications including two at Higher Level
Or
- SVQ level 7, Access Course or other record of academic achievement - These will be assessed individually on application
Applicants must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to assess, plan and implement care for perioperative patients.
A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
