Job Advert
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Applications are invited from individuals who would be interested in work within the Hospital Eye Service. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is looking to recruit 1 hospital based optometrist to support the ophthalmology service to cover 12 months maternity leave.
Interested optometrists would support the ophthalmology service to run clinics to address the significant backlog that we now have post COVID-19 pandemic. The sessions will primarily target the review cohorts for stable glaucoma and macular disease in the first instance but can include other conditions.
The clinics will aim to gather clinical data for these conditions that will allow a decision for further management by the optometrist or a virtual follow up by the consultant.
It is envisaged that these will promote a higher degree of collaboration with hospital eye services as well as the potential to develop roles with greater levels of decision making. There will be a short period of induction, orientation and training towards local protocol.
The terms and conditions are those of Agenda for Change Band 7.
You should have an honours degree or equivalent qualification in Optometry and be registered with the General Optical Council
Applicants wishing further information about the post are encouraged to contact Mr Cameron Sharkey, General Manager, Surgical Services. Telephone: 01292 616899 or email Cameron.Sharkey@aapct.scot.nhs.uk in the first instance.
