A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SOCIAL WORKER

What you'll be doing...

Reporting to the Community Services Manager, you can expect your working day to include the following:

You will work across all Hospice services – inpatient, outpatient and community - as part of a committed and creative team, which provides emotional, practical and social support to people with palliative and end of life care needs, and to their families, carers and children. Your day will include undertaking assessments of patients, carers and families’ needs, taking into account cultural, spiritual, psychological, social and financial issues and evaluations of risk, in partnership with other members of the multi-professional team. You will also take a lead in providing advice and support for wider hospice staff around responding to safeguarding issues. You will liaise with community agencies in order to maximise patients’ and service users’ access to appropriate resources.

To succeed in the role of Social Worker you will need the following qualities and skills:

Ideally with some knowledge of palliative care, this post requires an enthusiastic, confident and innovative registered Social Worker with some grounding in statutory work. You will need to have excellent communication, organisational and social work assessment skills.
