We have transformed our clinical pharmacy service across NHS Fife, integrating our pharmacy service across hospital, primary care and specialist teams, under a joint Directorate. The aim is to join up care for our patients across transitions of care and ensure the best outcomes for patients with their medicines.

A new opportunity has arisen for a full-time post for an experienced pharmacy technician registered with the GPhC with proven post qualification experience to join our integrated pharmacy team working in substance use. You will be based at Whyteman’s Brae / Lynebank hospital with the addictions team and work with Community Pharmacies to support their services to substance use patients and provide pharmaceutical support to patients with substance use issues in community and hospital settings.  You will also have sessions to enable you to maintain your checking qualification within Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy or Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.

The Alcohol and Drug Partnership’s Joint Commissioning Group recognise the impact community pharmacy networks can provide in supporting persons with substance use. Aims are as follows:

•    Ensure every Pharmacy had emergency take home naloxone on site
•    Ensure more pharmacies offered Injecting Equipment Provision (IEP) for people who inject drugs
•    Ensure take home naloxone and overdose awareness was available in a community setting, during the full opening hours of the pharmacy             including evenings and weekends and could be accessed by family members
•    Ensure that over 1500 THN kits were distributed
•    Provide many opportunities for community based wound care and Hep C testing to people who inject drugs  

You will Lead of the review on target setting and delivery for increasing the scope of emergency take home naloxone supply and IEP services for the community pharmacies.  You will work closely with the senior team leaders within pharmacy and the ADP to document delivery against these aims.

You must be able to work independently or as part of the pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary team.  You will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to build good relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.  You will also have sessions to enable you to maintain your checking qualification. You will have a role in education and training of multidisciplinary staff working in the area. 

You should have experience of working in a pharmacy environment and be able to manage staff.
