Genomics Applications Architecture Consultant

Permanent 37.5 hrs per week, Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm.

Salary £45,446 to £51,883

 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced IM&T professional to join the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Genetic Services. The department provides a high quality genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of through the Scottish Genetic Laboratories Consortium and the Scottish Molecular Pathology Consortium.  Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the in , the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the testing of inherited genetic disease and acquired genetic disease (solid and haematological malignancy).

You will join our team of >110 scientific and technical staff.  Working closely with the senior management team and the head of laboratory, you will take responsibility for the planning and delivery of information technology (IT) initiatives for both current and future service delivery.  Specifically you will work with the team to maintain the service at the forefront of technological developments, ensuring that the technologies are supported and enabled with the required IT infrastructure; assist with the strategic development of service delivery in relation to all elements of IT, translate researched based process into diagnostic service and support the development of new services through the Molecular Pathology Evaluation Panel (MPEP) and the Genetics Evaluation Panel (GEP) national processes.

 As well as in depth knowledge and practical experience of systems architecture, integration and complex database structure and design, you will require good communication and relationship-building skills along with the ability to think strategically.

It is essential that you have a BSc (Hons) and MSc or other postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in an IT related subject, ideally with a business component.  You should also have significant experience in implementing, developing and managing IM&T systems/applications in a complex organisation. Experience of working within the NHS or other public sector is desirable, especially coupled with a wide-ranging knowledge of NHS Scotland and NHS structures, systems and services. Programming and project management skills/experience are also highly desirable.
