NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the UK’s largest provider of acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services. With a total budget of £3.2 billion and a workforce of around 39,000 staff it serves an immediate population of 1.2 million plus provides specialist regional services to more than half of Scotland’s population. The geographical area covered is diverse; from the major city of Glasgow, large and small towns, villages and some rural districts; and encompasses 6 local authority areas from East Dunbartonshire to Inverclyde.
Our Acute Services are delivered currently from three Sectors covering North Glasgow, South Glasgow and Clyde and three Directorates with cross site responsibilities covering Women and Children's Services, Regional Services and Diagnostics and Imaging. Inpatient and outpatient Acute and Medicine for the Elderly services are delivered across 9 sites which include Acute teaching hospitals of which the state-of-the-art Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children are co-located on one of the largest hospital campuses in the UK and one of the most advanced in Europe.
Meeting and improving waiting times performance is a key priority for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Acute Services underpinning a commitment to deliver high quality, safe and efficient patient centred care which continues to meet patient expectations and maintains public confidence.
Improving the way inpatient, day cases and outpatients services are configured is an extremely high profile area with significant internal and external attention and is aligned with a number of national work streams which includes six essential actions – Unscheduled Care programme, Modern Outpatient programme, the Elective Centre Strategy – establishment of the five new elective and diagnostic treatment centres – and the Patient Flow programme.
We are now seeking to appoint a new Director of Access who will take up this key role providing strategic leadership to the Patient Access agenda for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and will take responsibility for the development and subsequent implementation of the Planned Care Capacity Plan and achievement of National Access targets. The development and implementation of long term strategic performance plans to deliver performance against local and national Access targets is a key priority of this role.
Reporting to the Chief Officer– Acute Services the new Director will work closely with our Acute Service senior management team and other key stakeholders to monitor progress, identify slippage of targets and agree remedial plans to bring performance back on track. At the same time establishing effective relationships with the Scottish Government National Access Team in respect of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s performance against National Access targets.
Comfortable working in a complex and challenging environment this role will appeal to someone with significant experience and awareness of the Patient Access Agenda and who can bring a track record of successfully delivering access target and recovery plans. Educated to degree level or equivalent, a Master’s degree or post graduate level qualification is desirable, the post holder will be required to demonstrate comprehensive, high level strategic knowledge and expertise of NHS Health and Social Care systems.
This role demands a strategic thinker, able to work at pace across a range of complex services with already significant experience of working at a senior management/Board level in a large and complex NHS/Health and Social Care organisation.
