​​​​​​​​​​​​​​SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN GENERAL SURGERY

​​​​​​​Introduction

The Surgical Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital seeks to appoint an enthusiastic individual to work within the middle tier surgical rota. This post would ideally suit an individual who has completed core surgical training or who has at least two years post graduate experience within general surgery, with a view to taking up a specialty training post in the future.

A regular out of hour’s commitment to general surgical on-call is associated with this post, attracting a banding payment of 2B.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a large district general hospital based in Paisley, Renfrewshire in West Central Scotland. The hospital is situated 10 miles west of Glasgow City Centre and 2 miles from Glasgow Airport. The total catchment area includes Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and also extends as far as Oban and Argyll.

Essential/Desirable Attributes of Appointee

Essential attributes

  • Completion of UK Foundation Programme or Equivalent
  • 2 years post graduate experience in surgical specialties
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary setting

Desirable attributes

  • Possession of MRCS (UK) exam
  • Completion of Core Surgical Training Programme

Tenure of Post

Until the beginning of August 2024.

The RAH has an excellent education centre with an extensive library with computer cluster, dedicated rooms for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, meeting facilities and a lecture theatre.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical duties in a general surgical out of hours middle tier rota and elective activities in theatre and clinics.

Undertake research, audit or quality improvement activity.
