Job Advert

Following the retirement of the current post-holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, accomplished, and inspirational leader to join the National Risk and Resilience (NRRD) Senior Leadership Team as Head of Specialist Education and Training, reporting to the General Manager – National Risk and Resilience.

As the senior manager responsible for education and training within the department you will hold strategic oversight and leadership for the delivery of Specialist Education and Training to both maintain our Specialist Response capabilities, and to support the education and development of staff throughout the service in relation to the specialist education portfolio. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will hold the portfolio for people development as part of the departmental delivery plan, recognising not only the need for education and development, but also recognition and reward.

This is a key strategic role, and the post-holder will have a significant contribution to the delivery of projects sponsored by Scottish Government, as-well as the strategic alignment and relationship building with health, emergency service, military, and resilience colleagues in the development, planning and delivery of education and training initiatives.

Already an established leader with a demonstrated track record, you will have the ability to analyse and interpret key strategic and legislative documentation, identify key risks and the required mitigation measures; and to both lead your own team, and to influence and persuade a variety of stakeholders at all levels to ensure successful delivery.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of leading within an educational and training context, including curriculum development, accreditation/approval, quality systems and both technical and non-technical skills. Ideally this will have been gained in an emergency service, military, health, or resilience context.

You will need to be able to demonstrate successful people leadership and interpersonal skills, including excellent communication, persuasion and negotiating skills, as well as emotional intelligence and a commitment to the NHS Values. You will also have a record of meeting performance targets and maintaining key performance criteria.

As a senior leader you will be expected to take initiative, and exercise autonomy to ensure the successful delivery of your portfolio areas, as well as making an active contribution to those held by the wider NRRD Senior Leadership Team, and other senior managers throughout the Service.

The base for this post will be at NRRD HQ, Newbridge, Edinburgh however we are committed to supporting staff in maintaining a health work-life balance and therefore a degree of agile working is negotiable.

Please ensure that you clearly demonstrate how you meet the Person Specification on your application form. We would also advise the job description provided is a generic job description for this level of post and therefore does not reflect the departmental make up or reporting lines appropriately and should therefore be used for general reference only.
