Professional Director of Dentistry
Hours per week:  8 hours

The successful candidate will be a member of the Oral Health Services Senior Management Team and will provide expert clinical input to the development of safe, effective and sustainable dental services across NHS Lothian. This post is the most senior dental professional leader for the health board. They will contribute to the strategic development of dental services in Lothian and provide professional leadership and oversight of dental professionals across Lothian. 

The postholder will work with the relevant Clinical Directors, Dental Practice Advisors and General Managers to promote strategic coordination in dental care. 

The successful candidate will have significant experience of dental care clinical leadership and management, and applications are welcomed from senior dentists working within the General Dental Service, the Public Dental Service, the hospital dental service or dental Public Health. 

The post-holder will be required to continue to provide clinical sessions within NHS Lothian in addition to this role.

Dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications and training, the post will be paid pro rata on either:

  • the salaried consultant scale (£91,474 - £121,548) plus a management allowance of £13,240 per annum
  • the salaried PDS Clinical Director scale (£86,187-£97,981) plus a management allowance of £13,240 per annum
  • the British Dental Guild Rate of £340 per session plus a management allowance of £13,240 per annum
