Within NHS Tayside we are expanding opportunities for HealthCare Support Workers to develop and progress into the role of an Assistant Practitioner. These are new, exciting and innovative roles supported with education and training from both the NHS Tayside Practice Development Team and Dundee College. Successful applicants will be supported to complete a Professional Development Award SCQF level 8 at Dundee College.

  • Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services.

As an Assistant Practitioner you will be working at the heart of our multidisciplinary teams delivering high quality, patient-centred care, supervised and reporting to a Registered Practitioner. This will require you to be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing, to share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do, and to demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.

We are seeking to recruit people who are committed to delivering outstanding patient care, take pride in what they do and want to learn and develop. A caring manner and excellent communication skills are essential. You must work well in a high pressure environment and have the ability to adapt to changing situations.

Please note that these positions require the successful applicants to work a variety of day shifts, including weekends. Full and part time workings, as well as flexible working options are available.

Your initial induction program will be followed by a number of professional development opportunities, including clinical skills and ongoing comprehensive online learning hub.


Applicants should be able to provide evidence of previous knowledge and relevant experience of working within a caring role /environment using Recognition of Prior learning. Normally at or working towards a SCQF Level 6 or 7 qualification in a health or social care related subject. Additionally numeracy and literacy qualifications are required at this level of practice

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
