HEPATOLOGIST GASTROENTEROLOGY

NHS Lothian University Hospital Services are seeking a Consultant Hepatologist to join a team of established NHS consultants and Academics providing emergency and elective Gastroenterology services to Lothian. The posts will be based in Edinburgh, one of UK’s most desirable places to live. A full range of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Services are offered with special interests encompassing hepatology, therapeutic endoscopy and transplantation. The unit is well supported by specialist GI Radiology, Pathology, Specialist nurses and Surgical Services. The unit also has close links to the University of Edinburgh.
This substantive post arising in the Gastroenterology Unit at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, necessitated by the increasing liver workload and the loss of a part-time locum consultant post, who has a substantial historical case load. It will be based in the Hepatology Unit of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and involve both out-patient and in-patient activities. The weekly timetable separates in-patient and out-patient duties. The standard week will include two outpatient clinics, supervision of a registrar (ST) clinic, and one endoscopy list.
In-patient duties (10 weeks per year) including responsibility for acute hepatology patients in Ward 205 and elsewhere in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and triage of referrals to the liver service.
The post-holder will contribute to the out-of-hours acute bleeding service. The post will not include general GI clinics and there is no General Internal Medicine commitment.
