Job Title Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in NIV, Home Ventilation and Sleep Medicine.
Department: Directorate of Respiratory Medicine, NHS Lothian
Base: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (You may also be required to work at any of NHS Lothian’s sites).
Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
This is a 10PA (negotiable to an EPA) post that would be suitable for either an established consultant chest physician or a final trainee with clinical experience in respiratory medicine, sleep medicine and NIV.
The main duties will be for the home ventilation service and NIV with general respiratory and some Sleep Medicine cover.
Any acute / in-patient clinical work will be based at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). On call will be for respiratory medicine only.
The Sleep Centre at the Royal Infirmary is one of the busiest in the UK seeing around 3500 new patients per annum with 16000 patients established on CPAP.
The Home Ventilation service which is based at the Western General Hospital is a satellite Unit and is under RIE Respiratory Medicine managerially. It serves approximately 400 patients with chronic respiratory failure receiving home NIV or Tracheostomy ventilation with a variety of neuro-muscular problems such as MND, myopathies and overlap hypoventilation. The Home Ventilation service will be a multi-disciplinary team with close liaison with neurology, rehabilitation and palliative care services.
The successful applicant will work with colleagues to deliver care to patients with a wide range of sleep and respiratory failure problems.
