Advanced Clinical Physiologist, Clinical Neurophysiology


SALARY SCALE:  £46,244- £53,789


1 x WTE post : 37.5 hrs per week. Permanent.


An exciting opportunity has arisen to contribute to Edinburgh’s Clinical Neurophysiology Service based at the new hospital Clinical Neurosciences and Royal Hospital for Children & Young People (RHCYP), Little France, Edinburgh. EH16 4TJ


Dimensions of the post


The successful candidate will be contributing to our area service which provides a high quality extensive range of routine and highly specialised Neurophysiological investigations for adults and paediatrics including:


  • Paediatric epilepsy invasive monitoring for a National Service.
  • Intra-operative neuro-monitoring  –Multi-modality monitoring of brain, spine and brainstem neurosurgical and orthopaedic cases for paediatrics and adults (National Service)
  • Electro-corticography.
  • Routine and Drug activation EEG recordings.
  • Portable EEG service i.e. SCBU, ITU.
  • EEG Videotelemetry.
  • 24 Hour EEG Ambulatory/ Home Video EEG Telemetry
  • Evoked Potentials (VEP, SSEP, BAEP)
  • Physiologist led NCV clinics.


Requirements of the Post


The successful candidates must have:


  • Degree in Neurophysiology or equivalent.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience and competencies in the dimensions of the post.
  • Confident, calm and open to taking direction, particularly in stressful situations.
  • RCCP/ AHCS Application for registration.



Additional training in epilepsy invasive monitoring and spinal & neuro intra-operative monitoring will be provided if required.

The Service operates a family friendly flexible working approach but this will need to be balanced against the departmental commitment to some longer days /evening work.


This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
