The Orthotic department is located within the SMART Centre at Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh. We provide Orthotic care to the population of Lothian and for the Scottish National Paediatric Spinal Deformity Service.
We currently have a team of 12.6 in-house orthotists. We also have 4 in-house technicians supported by a technical team lead as well as 2 Modern Apprentice Orthotics and Prosthetics Technicians. We use external companies for some of our manufacture services. We aim to deliver high quality patient centered care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will be conducting a mixture of face to face and telephone/Near Me clinics and will be supported by Advanced Orthotists. Whilst experience in orthotics would be beneficial, we would welcome applications from recent graduates. All relevant training and guidance will be given.
We require an individual with good interpersonal and communication skills who can demonstrate that they can work well independently and as part of a team. Must be registered with HCPC.
The successful candidate will, with the support of the Advanced Orthotists, provide a patient centered, clinical orthotic service by:
- Assessing referred patients’ orthotic needs and, either alone or in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary clinic team, prescribe and provide orthotic devices required to meet these needs.
- Supervise the manufacture and procurement of orthotic devices prescribed for referred patients.
- Review patients’ orthotic requirements to ensure the effectiveness and safety of devices provided.
