An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and forward-thinking candidate to join our Area Laboratory that provides Chemistry, Haematology, Transfusion and Microbiology laboratory services to NHS Borders. As laboratory manager, as well as provision of scientific and laboratory leadership, you will bring management expertise to develop and deliver the highest quality laboratory services for NHS Borders. The post holder will have operational responsibility for the management and delivery of diagnostic services.
Applications are invited from candidates with substantial post HCPC registration (Biomedical Scientist) experience holding either IBMS Fellowship or other relevant higher degree and ideally a post graduate management qualification – other relevant experience considered. Candidates must have significant laboratory management experience, with experience of with an appreciation of the regulatory requirements for medical laboratories as set by HSE, MHRA and UKAS.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated, forward-thinking individual with good interpersonal, communication and planning skills and experience of successfully delivering change, to lead our very dedicate professional team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of the senior leadership team that will shape the strategic direction of the service that is patient-focused and cost effective.
Main duties of the job include:
- Operational lead for delivery of laboratory service.
- Lead work on development of laboratory workforce strategy that is fit for the future.
- Support Clinical work of Clinical Leads within each discipline.
- Act as system administrator for the LIMS.
- Responsible for QMS management, codes of practice, and ensure service delivery to highest quality standards (e.g., HSE, MHRA, UKAS).
- Actively participate with regional programme of work (East Region Pathology Network).
- Facilitate staff training and development.
- Develop opportunities for the service.
- Representing the laboratory services at board, regional and national level.
