We are looking for highly motivated members of staff to join our advanced practitioner teams within primary care (primary care improvement plan (PCIP).

These posts offer a number of options to applicants:

  • GP practice based: triaging and assessing urgent care presentations, including if appropriate home visits.
  • Working in General Practice allows a degree of flexibility to assure and promote a healthy work / life balance.
  • Part-time hours/variety of shift patterns ie longer day 8-6 or shorter days 8-4 & 9-5.

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced advanced nurse practitioners and paramedic practitioners who will embrace the challenge of these dynamic roles. All applicants should possess the ability to prioritise fluctuating workloads, remain focused, work across professional boundaries and be flexible.

Essential Qualifications for band 7:

  • HEI accredited Independent Prescribing Qualification - V300
  • HEI accredited Clinical Examination & history taking course
  • HEI accredited clinical decision-making module with a primary care focus

Highly Desirable:

  • Previous advanced practice experience
  • Experience in autonomous practice in primary care or out–of-hours
  • Autonomously managing undifferentiated urgent presentations such as experience as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Paramedic Practitioner

Applicants should have or be working towards the following skills / qualifications

We may also consider applications for trainee posts under annex 21 and will support the development of individuals to meet advanced practice competencies using a triangulation approach of academic courses, professional supervision and clinical practice supervision. 406.pdf (nhsemployers.org)

Applicants for trainee posts should have demonstrated evidence of undertaking courses relevant to the advanced practice pathway.

This post will also be considered as in training position under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms & conditions.

Here at NHS FV within the PCIP team we strive to ensure our advanced practitioners are supported both clinically and in their learning and that they feel valued. We support fulfillment of the 4 pillars of advanced practice, including provision of non patient facing/CPD time.

We are fully aware that working in Primary Care means you are providing a very generalist role and service to patients. There may be gaps in knowledge and skills for the role which you will be supported with.

We have an ANP training HUB based at a surgery in Tullibody which is nurse led with Senior ANPs. The HUB provides targeted learning opportunities with formal and informal teaching. There is a weekly resource of a Senior Paediatric ANP.

We have great links with Secondary Care and the wider multi-disciplinary team in Primary Care which allows sharing of staff experiences/shadowing whilst providing a positive learning environment. We facilitate shadowing at clinics, with specialist nurses and teams which is vital during clinical courses and fulfilling gaps in knowledge.

We have strong links with The University of Stirling. The Lead ANP and some of the Senior ANPs teach on, and help to facilitate advanced practice courses such as the Advanced Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis and Decision Making in Advanced Practice Modules.

Advanced Practitioners have a Senior ANP Mentor allocated to them which ensures good support and communication. The senior mentor also facilitates clinical supervision with their practitioner.

We have 2 days allocated a year for in-service days when practices are closed. This allows the whole team to get together, have any updates, and have that vital peer support.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.  More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk
