Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed term position for 24 months.

The shift pattern for this position is within Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm.

This 24-month fixed term post provides an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative project, hosted within the Paediatric Neuropsychology Service at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. This new project is called ‘Improving Psychosocial Care for Children and Young People with Epilepsy’, and has been developed in recognition of the increased prevalence of mental health difficulties in this population. The successful candidate will be responsible for updating and delivering an evidenced-based psychosocial group for children and young people with Epilepsy. They will also be involved in evaluating the feasibility of implementing mental health screening and signposting within Paediatric Neurosciences Clinics. There will be opportunities for one to one therapeutic intervention with children and young people with Epilepsy. There will be a service evaluation aspect to the role, as well as communication with the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Healthcare Charity Endowments Management Committee, who have funded the project.

The post holder would be part of a grouping of more than 100 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services and of around 350 psychologists in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. There are good links both to the West of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme (University of Glasgow) and to the MSc in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People (University of Edinburgh).

We would welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists who want to be involved in an innovative service development that will improve the psychosocial care available for children and young people with Epilepsy. Applications from newly qualified Clinical Psychologists will be welcomed.
