To direct and control the provision of all midwifery and nursing services for Women’s Services across NHS Lothian and participate as a member of the Clinical Management Team (CMT) in order to contribute to the effective delivery of all clinical services in the Directorate of Women and Children’s Services.
To ensure the implementation of the National ‘Best Start’ Strategy for midwifery and neonatal services in NHS Lothian.
To secure and ensure the highest standard of clinical care by providing leadership and expertise to the nursing/midwifery staff for, which the post holder is accountable officer (Women’s Services).
To ensure compliance with NMC policy and guidelines in relation to the provision of patient care and standards for professional practice and conduct.
To ensure the provision of a viable, accessible and authoritative midwifery/nursing presence in ward and clinic settings to whom patients and their families can turn to for assistance, advice and support. To ensure patients and their families receive timely, patient centred, safe and effective care.
In association with the Clinical Directors for Women’s services and the Clinical Management Team, to ensure the effective working of the Women’s services clinical governance framework.
This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
