The Enhanced Drug Treatment Service is an exciting new development within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the first in Scotland. Located in Glasgow city centre, this service will deliver heroin assisted treatment with intense psychosocial support. The EDTS aims to engage and improve outcomes for a population of complex needs drug users who have not benefited from other treatments. The service will be delivered by a specialist multi-disciplinary team in a bespoke clinical environment.  NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS) are ready to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced consultant in addiction psychiatry to take on the medical, prescribing and clinical leadership role in this new flagship service.


The HAT service will aim to engage and work with long-term opiate users with complex needs who have not benefitted from other evidence based treatments. In particular, the target population will be homeless/high risk drug users in Glasgow city centre.


This is a part-time (0.6 wte) post. The post will be officed at the site of the service- Hunter Street Health Centre, co-located with Homeless Health Service colleagues. You would participate in all aspects of patient care, including multidisciplinary meetings providing consultant leadership and expertise. You will contribute to service quality assurance and evaluation. There will be opportunity to participate in formal research.  


The service will support your application for a Scottish Government prescriber’s license for “heroin prescribing” for this site and will assist with compliance reports. Full registration with the GMC, MRCPsych or FRCPsych or equivalent and a CCST in general adult psychiatry with an endorsement in addictions are essential. You must be eligible for approval under the Scottish Mental Health Act as an AMP.


Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCST or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview.
