In NHS Forth Valley we know the radical and transformational difference staff make to the lives of their patients. This is also true for our Prison Healthcare Teams, we have three National prisons in our Health Board area; HMP YOI Stirling, HMP YOI Polmont and HMP Glenochil. We have developed our NHS FV Prison Healthcare Teams to be truly multi-disciplinary and we will always strive to maintain this skill mix for our prison population. In NHS Forth Valley we passionately believe in joined-up, holistic care across the whole patient journey. We have a dynamic workforce and due to the relatively small size and adaptability of our health board our three prison healthcare teams can drive through positive changes for Primary Care, Mental Health, Addictions and Learning Disabilities in partnership with our Scottish Prison Service colleagues and others.
We are in an exciting place with regards to the new Women’s National Facility, which opened June 2023. A new therapeutic model has been developed and lead by Scottish Government. HMP YOI Polmont is also undergoing change in line with recommendations regarding mental health, primary care, Youth Justice and their population changes. Our prison healthcare has always been at the forefront of strong partnership working with a ‘can do’ attitude.
This post is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced registered nurse to undertake a significant professional role within the Healthcare Teams in our three Forth Valley prisons.
You will work with the Service Manager, Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Lead of Prison Healthcare and Acting Chief Nurse to take the lead role in defining, shaping and implementing the model for Prison Healthcare Team, with particular focus on the nurse led element of that service.
The post demands significant professional leadership abilities in taking forward the contribution of Prison Healthcare in a collaborative, engaging and patient focused service delivery model and will be required to work in partnership with a range of internal NHS partners as well as partners from the public, third and independent sectors.
You will have professional responsibility for a significant number of nursing staff who care for all health needs of the prison population including palliative/end of life care, chronic long term illnesses, substance misuse, mild to severe mental health illness, Trauma, BBV patients, and more.

The successful candidate will have 1st Level registration and significant management experience as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.
You will have experience of working in multi disciplinary and multi agency teams and preferably have experience in change management. You will be expected to actively participate in implementing service development, quality improvement and redesign.
You must have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, be self motivated, enthusiastic and innovative.
You will be responsible for ensuring your ongoing professional development in conjunction with the Service Manager / Acting Chief Nurse / Professional leads.
Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for the post.
