An exciting opportunity has arisen for a rotational programme for bnad 5 nurses to rotated between Acute Medical Receiving and Acute Surgical Receiving Unit in Acute North Sector. The post is rotational and incorporates placements in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in our Acute Medical Receiving Unit and Acute Surgical Receiving Unit).
This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to gain experience in all aspects of Acute Care. The rotation is for an 12-month period where the successful candidate would be based in each of the two areas for six months.
Within this rotational post, you will be supported by experienced nurses and will be allocated a mentor to provide you with support in the role. In addition, you will be supported by our practice education nurse.
Requirements
Candidates must be registered nurses. Evidence of on-going professional development is essential. At least 1 year experience within an acute care setting is preferable.

The acute medical receiving unit or AMRU consists of three wards 50/51/53. Within these wards we have several different specialities respiratory, rheumatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, older people services and hyper acute stroke. The unit has a capacity of 68 patients. For staff to gain the most experience gain experience of all patient groups within AMRU there is staff rotation around all zones.
AMRU is a dynamic / fast paced / acute clinical area. Patients are admitted from three pathways Emergency department / AAU and on occasion clinics. There are two consultant wards rounds daily in each of the zones. After a consultant review and if patient is clinically stable they would be discharged from unit or allocated a bed in appropriate downstream ward for their clinical requirements.
As the unit has different specialities it is an excellent environment for staff to work to learn and develop clinical skills in all aspects of acute medicine. The variation of patient group is vast. AMRU patient group is diverse. A respiratory example: AMRU cares for patients who have a simple exacerbation of COPD up to patients requiring non-invasive ventilation / high flow nasal oxygen. In other hospitals this client group would be in a medical high dependency unit, meaning staff can learn how to manage and care for patients in their most acute period of care.
You will Use your own initiative and acts independently within the bounds of your existing knowledge and skills. You will demonstrates sound judgment in assessing the emotional and physical care of the patient in a patient centred way.
