An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join us to assist the Blood Sciences Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Centrally located in Falkirk with easy access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, the laboratory is preparing for ISO15189 accreditation. We are looking to strengthen our existing departments and you will be part of the Central Specimen Reception team that contributes to the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Blood Science service for NHS Forth Valley.

The key duties include providing line management, supervision, and support to over 15 Healthcare Scientist support workers and collaborating with the senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) team to improve sample workflow. In this busy department, the successful candidate must be able to work quickly and with a high degree of accuracy as mistakes may cause incorrect results to be reported. They must be willing to work collaboratively with the laboratory managers, BMS team and support staff. General duties include, devising staff rotas, conducting PDP (Personal Development Plans), maintain staff training and competency in addition to general specimen reception duties. The post will involve working from 9am to 5pm weekdays, and on occasion evenings and weekends, in line with service requirements, upon completion of successful training.

Applicants should be educated to at least SVQ/NVQ Level 3 and/or have considerable experience in a supervisory or training role, excellent typing/keyboard skills and be IT (Information Technology) literate. Previous experience in a medical laboratory would be desirable.
