Support Accountant - INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
Base Helensburgh or Lochgilphead offices with Hybrid Working
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a demanding but enjoyable finance role in the NHS.
This post is based in Helensburgh or Lochgilphead with the option of hybrid working and is full-time
A key member of the Argyll and Bute HSCP finance team, you will provide support in all aspects of financial management to the Head of Finance and the Senior Accounting Team.
You will demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of such tools and concepts as financial modelling, costing and financial analysis.
This should be underpinned with detailed practical knowledge, skills and experience in management accounting and reporting.
The main duties of this role include assisting with financial planning and the preparation of the annual health budget for the HSCP, contributing to the various workstreams within our business planning, providing draft reporting and analysis for the month end monitoring to the Head of Finance to enable all monthly returns to be compiled, providing costings and deal with queries as required.
You must be proficient in all Microsoft packages, but in particular Excel and Office.
You should be educated to a minimum of AAT/HND level or have significant experience of public sector finance in the fields of management accounting and business finance in a finance role(s) within a major public sector body.
You must be an excellent communicator and team player.
You should have developed knowledge and experience of computerised ledger systems, chart of accounts and coding structures, reconciliations, preparation of annual accounts, application of financial control processes and payments processing.
You will be proficient in a range of computer applications, particularly spreadsheets and databases.
You may occasionally be required to travel between various work locations within the Argyll and Bute Locality to meet the operational requirements of the Service so a full driving licence is essential.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
