A number of exciting career opportunities have become available across our medical, ageing and health and surgical directorates for motivated pharmacists who are ready to take the next step to advance their skills across the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s four pillars of Advanced Practice.

This is an exciting time to join our clinical pharmacy team as the Forth Valley Pharmacy Leadership Team seek to develop a new vision and strategy for the delivery of clinical pharmacy services that is fit for the future. In addition, we will be seeking to utilise established and new e-systems to deliver more efficient, intelligent and targeted clinical pharmacy services. You will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the development of this new vision and strategy and be part of delivering novel ways of working.

We are seeking pharmacists who will take the lead in integrating themselves into the various multidisciplinary teams as outlined above, as well as supporting service development to advance pharmacist clinical roles. Post holders will initially support key inpatient clinical areas with scope to consider novel outpatient-based roles in the future as the service develops and evolves. You will take the lead for a defined patient group within speciality areas, which will require strong leadership skills.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to make a difference and contribute to transforming hospital services and improving patient outcomes. You will need to be flexible, organised, work well within teams and have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.  You need to enjoy working in a busy challenging environment. You will be a well-rounded practitioner, working towards or having completed Foundation Training. Being qualified as an independent prescriber would be desirable although training opportunities are available for post-graduate study. You will be supported in your development and the skills developed through working in this role will set a strong foundation to build upon for advanced practice.

Day-to-day roles and responsibilities will include:

  1. Working as an active member of the multidisciplinary team to provide inpatient services to the speciality area
  2. Joining ward rounds and actively influencing and independently prescribing in the speciality area
  3. Taking the lead for speciality inpatient services with support from the directorate Lead Pharmacist
  4. Being responsible for the training of rotational pharmacists.
  5. Contributing to and leading research activities in speciality area

There will also be a requirement to contribute to the core services of the pharmacy department, including dispensary, weekends, late nights and the emergency pharmacy on call service for the FVRH site.

All posts will contribute to dispensary, on-call, weekends, public holiday and extended working rota.

We are a friendly, dedicated, and supportive team. The hospital is surrounded by woods and lochs which gives the opportunity for outdoor walks. Larbert is within 40 minutes of Edinburgh and Glasgow and has excellent road and rail links.

This is a unique opportunity to potentially work in novel ways as well as improving your work/life balance.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.  More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk
