Flexible Location: Based throughout Scotland, NES is a remote friendly employer supporting office and hybrid working. Occasional presence at our Edinburgh office is a requirement for this role. We’re happy to talk about how you want to work.
Work Pattern: Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours per week
You must have eligibility and entitlement to work in the UK which is required to be maintained throughout your period of employment.
Who We Are
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.
The Finance Directorate operates under a Finance Business Partnering ethos to support NES in delivering their strategic objectives and in the management of its £700m annual budget within a robust and proportionate governance structure.
This newly established role will report directly to the Head of Governance and Operations. The Governance and Operational (Finance) team are responsible for all aspects of financial governance and transactional processing within the annual budget.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the Finance & Procurement Directorate to deliver its strategic objectives and to be a key member of the Governance and Operational Team supporting the corporate position and ensuring financial regulatory compliance across NES.

Working within the Governance and Operational (Finance) team you will have the opportunity to utilise your skills and experience to influence change within NES as well as collaborate with colleagues in NES and other NHSS Boards to maximise effectiveness and efficiency.

What We Love to See
Financial Accountants offer a broad range of skills and experience, if you are CCAB or CIMA qualified (or recognised international equivalent) and can offer some or all of these, we’d love you to apply:
- Proven experience of producing financial reports and accounts
- Excellent understanding of VAT and payroll
- Proven experience of identifying and complying with financial controls
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibility to produce high quality outputs
- A confident influencer and negotiator with an ability quickly establish credibility with colleagues across the organisation
- Experience of creating reports and documents related to progress, risks, issues, and governance
- Highly effective communicator knowing how to make complex financial information and language simple for a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders (both verbally and in writing)
- Ability to work on own initiative, to organise and prioritise workload and that of your team, and to meet strict deadlines
- Line Management and coaching/mentoring experience

Next Steps
Our recruitment process is currently 100% remote and if successful you would initially work in our Edinburgh office for a few days as part of your induction and learning.
Once settled in the role, you will be able to work in a hybrid capacity between home and our NES offices. Please note, occasional presence at our Edinburgh office is a requirement for this role.
